So, today, my class and I burned various objects in science class today! Don't think that we mindlessly did this just for the fun of it (and it was fun), but we connected this activity to what we learned in the chapter.
We were learning about lenses. With diverging lenses, the light rays separate when they pass through it. With converging lenses, all the light rays meet at a certain point. That point can be concentrated, when the magnifying glass is at the right height and angle, to a single dot. All of the sun's energy in that one, miniscule dot is enough to burn something! We burned leaves, paper, and, yes, even weave. It was very fascinating.
The same procedure can be done with eye-glasses, but you need farsighted glasses. Farsighted glasses converge; nearsighted glasses diverge.
Now, I need to invest in a magnifying glass. Maybe two. Blog you cool cats later on the other side.
